The main chemical components in Blue Tansy are sabinene and champhor, which are an anti-inflammatory that helps diminish the appearance of blemishes and chamazulene, which has free radical scavenging (ROS) and antioxidant properties along with being an anti-inflammatory.
When heated chamazulene turns a deep blue giving it’s indigo-to-cerulean hue. Chamazulene, is recognized for its powerful skin soothing effects1. The etymology behind the name
“chamazulene’ is very telling. "Cham" refers to chamomile, in which chamazulene was first discovered and “azulene’ is in reference to the indigo blue compound from which chamazulene is derived. Chamazulene is a sesquiterpene found in Blue Tansy essential oil as well as Chamomile and Yarrow essential oils.
