Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
This hot oil is one of the most powerful cleansing and purifying antioxidants.*
It heats up the body and supports a healthy immune system, healthy digestion, and respiratory function when used internally.* It has been used for centuries in Italian and Greek recipes. The primary chemical component of Oregano is carvacrol, a phenol that has antioxidant properties. Caution should be taken when inhaling or diffusing this oil because of its high phenol content. It should also be diluted with a carrier oil when applied to the skin. Take 2-3 drops in a veggie cap or dilute and apply to the bottom of the feet.
Cautions: Possible skin sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, face, and sensitive areas. Consult your health practitioner if pregnant or nursing.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
With its specific chemistry that supports a healthy immune system, this is a warm, potent cleansing and purifying essential oil. It also provides powerful antioxidant benefits when used internally.* Thyme was given by ladies of the Middle Ages to knights and warriors before going into battle. Ancient Greeks used Thyme in their baths and burned it as an incense in their temples. Egyptians used it in their traditional ceremonies. Because of its high thymol content, it should be diluted with a carrier oil before application.
Cautions: Possible skin sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, face, and sensitive areas. Consult your health practitioner if pregnant or nursing.
Clove and Oregano should only be used in short spurts; no more than 10 days at a time because these oils can be hard on the liver. Using them in conjunction with an essential oil that supports liver function will help this process and your body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins.
Clove, oregano, and thyme are hot oils. This means when they come in contact with the skin, the skin may feel a warming, burning sensation and red blotches can appear. The best way to combat this is to dilute them heavily: a 1:4 ratio or more if you have sensitive skin. While any carrier oil can be used, fractionated coconut oil is my preference.
