This is beginning to happen in commercial spaces and might become a health risk in the near future.

So, what is next? There is an emerging technology to produce white light with what is called full-spectrum LEDs, with light emissions that mimic the Sun, at different moments of the day. This is a balanced emission, that comes associated with an extremely high color rendering factor. In terms of availability, these lamps are still scarce and expensive, but we hope that as they enter into mass production, prices will drop and we will get this fascinating technology for household lighting systems and luminaires.

Keep an eye the next time you buy a light source to see how it produces the “white” perception, and begin to check about full spectrum. At the end, the main purpose of artificial/electric indoor light is to bring indoors the light that we do not get from the Sun. Our visual system has evolved under the Sun, we can not be wrong with full spectrum LEDs. What a better choice than the spectrum of the Sun for indoor artificial/electric light?
