5.BIODYNAMIC food - Also very difficult to find in grocery stores; when it is, it is labeled as Demeter. Developed by Rudolph Steiner, it is a very similar method to Regenerative Organic and farming methods used by the Japanese and Koreans for thousands of years. Although almost indistinguishable from each other, the primary difference from Regenerative organic is that BIODYNAMIC is more well know for fruit and vegetable production, planting by different stages of the moon, rather than livestock.

Cattle farmers are currently identifying more with Regenerative, produce growers with BIODYNAMIC. Animal welfare and use in the farming cycle are just as crucial in BIODYNAMIC as Regenerative organic farming; however, no toxic chemicals or GMOs are used either. If farmers had listened to Steiner 100 years ago and had ignored Monsanto 40 years ago, we would not be in the mess we are today.

6.Hydroponic food- This food type is not labeled as hydroponic. It can be labeled as organic, which has raised the hackles of organic food producers across the country and has inspired the “Real” Organic Project. The Real Organic Project insists that organic food is grown in the soil. They have a point. Soil, healthy soil that is has trillions of microbes that are essential for healthy food. Hydroponic vegetables, like basil, spinach, lettuce, and tomatoes, are grown in water with mineral inputs that may or may not be GMO, and the inputs and water do not contain the same microbes as in the soil. Hydroponic crops are usually grown in a greenhouse, so people with chemical sensitivities may like that their food is shielded from aerial spraying of chemicals by neighbor GMO farmers. Hydroponically grown vegetables also are likely to contain far less lead and heavy metals than food grown in soil because the soil and manure are suspected to be the sources of heavy metal contamination. Either way, there is no way to know if it is hydroponic or not to choose or avoid it because it is not required to be labeled.

In addition to improving environmental degradation, which is reported to be the biggest threat to humanity in recorded history, these six different types of food systems all play a role in our health, the most crucial part, as many nutritionists would say. When a food contains GMOs that are foreign proteins and toxins that destroy gut bacteria and harm bodily functions, our immune system is weakened. When our immune system is weakened, we are more susceptible to infectious and degenerative diseases such as cancer, obesity, and diabetes. Studies show that people with diabetes and obesity have higher rates of severe symptoms and death from infections. Higher death rates mean more prolonged shutdowns and deeper economic peril for Americans. Our economy, politics, and our country’s future are in jeopardy mainly because our food system has been poisoned.

And yet, many western medical doctors still say that food has nothing to do with most ailments. They encourage patients to eat what they want and take a pill when sick instead. Or, get a vaccine. They practice “sick” care rather than health care. In fact, eating healthy food can prevent you from having to go to the doctor in the first place. Eating healthy food can build up your immune system and prevent illness. Hippocrates was right when he said, “Let food be your medicine, and medicine be your food.” The question is, which food do you want to take - the food that causes sickness or the food that helps to keep you well? Making the choice to purchase healthier food is not only better for you, it’s a matter of national security, future stability, and prosperity.
